Celebrate a Green Diwali by Planting Palm Seeds — Receive Tamil Nadu Government Recognition Certificate

Under the guidance of the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Forests, Green Tamil Nadu Mission, Tamil Nadu Volunteers Organisation, District administrations and NGOs have jointly launched the large-scale initiative “Palm Seed Plantation Mission – 2025.”

As part of this green initiative, More than a crore palm seeds are being planted across Tamil Nadu, with 5,000 seeds allocated per village panchayat. The mission, which began on September 16, 2025, continues to gain tremendous momentum across the state.

50 Lakh Palm Seeds Planted Across Tamil Nadu

From September 16 to October 16, over 48 lakh palm seeds have been successfully planted across 38 districts, coordinated by the Green Tamil Nadu Mission, district administrations, and Tamil Nadu Volunteers.

Each plantation activity is digitally documented using the Udhavi App ( Udhavi.app/panai ) — complete with photographs and geo-tagged coordinates (latitude and longitude). This ensures real-time tracking, field verification, and long-term care of germinated saplings. Participants will also receive a Government of Tamil Nadu Recognition Certificate for their contribution.

Palm Tree – The Heritage Tree of Tamil Nadu

The Palm Tree, officially recognized as the State Tree of Tamil Nadu, plays a vital role in climate resilience, environmental protection, and cultural preservation.

Towards 33% Green Cover – Green Tamil Nadu Mission

The Government of Tamil Nadu continues its mission to increase green cover to 33% of the state’s land area — combating climate change, soil erosion, and drought.
The Palm Tree stands as a natural climate solution, conserving soil, water, air, and biodiversity together.

Green Diwali Initiative

The Tamil Nadu Volunteers Organisation invites citizens to celebrate this Diwali as a Green Diwali by planting palm seeds.
Those travelling to their hometowns are encouraged to collect fallen palm seeds, plant them near water bodies, and register their plantation through the Udhavi App (Udhavi.app/panai) to receive a Government Recognition Certificate.
